If someone wants to sit down, let him or her. To not try to exclude anyone. We are a family, and we must treat one another with respect and kindness. It takes a while for students to learn to accept everyone, because there is a certain amount of safety in being part of a clique. Even as adults, we want to have a sense of belonging, and unfortunately the bonding of some will mean the exclusion of others. It is important to teach that they and their friends accept others and try to include others in their activities. No one likes to be left out.
A seating chart has been used to ensure inclusion from time to time. I like that.
